Parliament goes into recess, Speaker says 73% work done
Parliament ended its last session of the year and went into recess on Thursday.
Before ending the final session of the session, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla shared some statistics of the work and achievements of the third session.
According to the Speaker, the Parliament had attended and completed 73.3 percent of the work during the session.
In contrast, the last Parliament had achieved a 82.9 percent completion rate in its third session.
Abdul Raheem said as many as 20 sittings were held during the session which amounts to 67 hours.
The various parliamentary committees had held 165 sit-downs amounting to a total of 118 hours, he said.
During the third session, Parliament had deliberated and passed as many as 20 laws which included important legislations related to the economy and social issues.

In addition, the Parliament during this session passed the state budget for next year.
Abdul Raheem also said one resolution, 13 motions by the government, five motions by the Speaker and four emergency motions have also been attended to during the session, along with 13 questions to ministers.
Seven reports on other issues have been completed in the last session of the year, he added.
The Parliament will remain in recess until early February next year.
