Maldives Sends Condolences to Vanuatu Following Devastating Earthquake
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel has sent a message of condolence to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and External Trade of Vanuatu, Matai Nawalu Seremaiah, following a devastating earthquake in the country.
Tuesday’s earthquake, which hit Vanuatu with a magnitude of 7.3, resulted in the loss of 14 lives and left over 200 people with various injuries. Infrastructure and public services have also been significantly affected by the earthquake.
In his message, Minister Khaleel extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government and the people of Maldives. Noting that Vanuatu, too, is a fellow Small Island Developing State like the Maldives, the Minister said the people of Maldives remain in solidarity with the people of Vanuatu at this time of crisis.
The Minister further expressed sympathies to the families of those that lost lives in the earthquake, and those who lost their homes and livelihoods. He extended best wishes for the success of the recovery efforts currently underway.
