Ministry Announces Scholarships for Fisheries and Natural Resources Studies

The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has announced the opening of scholarship applications for studies in the fields of fishery and natural resources. This opportunity falls under the ‘Transforming Fisheries Management in South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives’ project, a collaboration between the Maldives government and the World Bank.

The project aims to enhance regional, evidence-based fisheries management in the South-West Indian Ocean (SWIO) region and to boost competitiveness in the Maldives’ fisheries sector. As part of this initiative, scholarships are available in two categories: Category 1: Recipients must commit to serving at the Fisheries Ministry for a specified period upon completing their higher education. The scholarships under this category include: Bachelor‘s Degree in Fisheries Science (2 opportunities)Bachelor’s Degree in Aquaculture (1 opportunity) Category 2: Students who receive scholarships in this category are not required to serve at the Fisheries Ministry after their studies, according to the ministry. The available scholarships are: Master’s Degree in Plant Protection, Entomology, or Plant Pathology (1 opportunity)Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences (1 opportunity)Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary, Zoology, or Animal Sciences (1 opportunity)Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture (Botanical and Entomology) (1 opportunity)Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources Management or Economics (1 opportunity) Applications for these scholarships are open until 9 January 2025, the ministry said, adding that detailed information regarding the required documents and guaranteed fees can be found in the Government Gazette.
