State Shipping Firm Offers Maritime Scholarships
The Maldives State Shipping Company Private Limited (MSS) has invited applications for two maritime scholarships as it seeks to encourage the country’s youth to pursue a career in the maritime industry.
The two scholarships which is offered under the MSS scholarship programme, ‘Kalaaseen’, will provide the opportunity to study at diploma level in Malaysia.
The two courses available under the scholarship include, Diploma in Nautical Studies and Diploma in Marine Engineering.
Entry requirements for interested applicants between the ages of 18 to 25 include, minimum five credits IGCSE ‘O’ Level, being physically and mentally fit and have good eyesight.
According to MSS, the course duration is three years and four months, while recipients must serve at the company for no less than 18 months upon completion of the programme.
The deadline for applications will expire on 21 January.
The state-owned company, since its inception in February 2020, regularly transports goods from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Kuwait, Indonesia, and China and handles 50-60 percent of the shipments between Male’ and Colombo in Sri Lanka.
The company has also launched several initiatives in the recent past to expand its portfolio and trade routes.
