
Russia Leads as Maldives Greets Record Tourist Numbers in Early 2025
The Maldives has experienced a robust surge in tourism in the initial days of 2025, welcoming over 69,000 visitors, according to recent data from the Ministry of Tourism. From 1 to 11 January, the Maldives welcomed a total of 69,553 tourists, marking a 10% increase compared to the 63,156 arrivals during the same period in 2024.
The tourism ministry‘s statistics indicate that 11 January saw the highest number of daily arrivals this year, with 8,090 tourists entering the country. On average, the daily influx of visitors has exceeded 5,000, highlighting the continued growth of the tourism sector.
Russia has emerged as the primary source market for the Maldives so far in 2025, contributing 11,367 visitors. Italy follows as the second-largest market with 8,499 arrivals, while the United Kingdom ranks third with 5,537 tourists. Germany is positioned fourth with 4,369 visitors, and India completes the top five with 3,241 tourists.
The year 2024 was a landmark for the Maldives’ tourism industry, with the country surpassing the two million tourist mark for the first time. Building on this success, the government has set an ambitious target to attract over 2.2 million tourists in 2025.
