President Pledges Land Reclamation for Kan’duhulhudhoo Next Year
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday pledged a land reclamation project for Kan’duhulhudhoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll next year.
Addressing residents of Kan’duhulhudhoo, as part of his ongoing three-day visit to the islands of Huvadhu Atoll, the President announced the projects in the pipeline for the island to address the grievances of its residents.
To address the infrastructure concerns of the island, President Muizzu pledged to resolve the island’s harbour limitations, unfinished multipurpose hall, and football ground renovation needs.
The President also announced the plan to carry out a land reclamation project in the island next year, which he said will be followed by a social housing project.
“We need to reclaim more land in order to build more housing units. But I don’t think it can be done this year. A land reclamation project will be carried out within next year’s budget,” he said.
While noting that this year’s budget has prioritised health and education, President Muizzu pledged to staff and equip the island’s health center to operate it round the clock.
