President Pledges Airport in Alifu Alifu Atoll to Boost Development

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday pledged a domestic airport for Alifu Alifu Atoll, saying such ease of access was essential to bring much needed development to the region.

The President made the pledge during his meeting with the Atoll Council as part of his ongoing two-day visit to several islands in the Alifu Alifu and Kaafu Atolls.

During the sit-down the council members requested the President to facilitate the establishment of national identity card and passport renewal service in the Atoll, in addition to more economic activity in the region.

The President assured the council that Alifu Alifu Atoll would not be left behind in his administration’s efforts to bring long overdue progress and development.

He also noted the pressing need for an airport in Alifu Alifu Atoll, adding that the government would deliver on this pledge.

In response to the council’s requests, the President highlighted the recently launched project to establish identity card and passport renewal services in all Atolls next year, adding that his pledge to dedicate a certain percentage of tourism taxes to local councils would prove pivotal to ensuring more funds to the councils.
