President pledges a case of canned fish for every household next Ramadan
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the government’s decision to distribute a case of canned fish to every household during the upcoming month of Ramadan. The announcement was made at a special ceremony commemorating the one-year anniversary of his administration. Speaking at the event, President Muizzu stated that preparations are underway to ensure each household receives canned fish as part of the government’s Ramadan support initiative. He noted that this marks a shift in approach, as the government aims to provide more diversified assistance during the holy month. Reflecting on last Ramadan, the President highlighted that the government distributed 1.6 million kilograms of essential staples, including flour and rice, free of charge to 82,000 households. He also pointed out that, in addition to providing staples, the government offered significant relief on utility bills during the previous Ramadan. Discounts on water and electricity bills resulted in public savings amounting to USD 9 million. The President expressed hope that this year’s initiative would further ease the burden on citizens during the holy month and enhance their well-being.
