PNC set to become first Maldivian party with 100,000 members

Chairperson of the People’s National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdullah, has announced that the party is on track to become the first political party in the Maldives to reach 100,000 members. In addition to electing members to various positions within the party, the PNC has been actively working to expand its membership base. Speaking on this milestone, Abdul Raheem confirmed confirmed that the initial target set by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to increase the party’s membership has already been successfully achieved. He revealed that over half a million new members have joined the party, with membership forms already received to push the total number of valid members beyond 90,000. The ultimate goal, he stated, is for the PNC to be the first political party in the Maldives to surpass the 100,000-member milestone. The party has experienced impressive growth in a remarkably short period, which Abdul Raheem attributed to the strong support for President Muizzu and the party’s policies. This rapid expansion, he explained, reflects a public endorsement of both the President’s leadership and the direction of the party. When the PNC came to power, it had just 3,022 members. Today, the party has received nearly 97,000 membership forms and boasts over 75,000 registered members. With membership nearing 100,000, Abdul Raheem attributed this success to the widespread popularity of President Muizzu’s leadership and principles. He further emphasized that both President Muizzu and the party’s leadership are fully committed to strengthening the PNC. Given the importance of political parties in the Maldives’ system of governance, which directly influences the formation of government, President Muizzu is determined to position the PNC as one of the most influential and powerful political forces in the country.
