Parliament approves Azeema as Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation

The Parliament has approved Fathimath Azeema as the Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation, with 64 votes in favour. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu sent the names of Fathimath Azeema and Asma Shafeeu to the parliament on October 23. Following this, the names were forwarded to the Parliament’s Committee on Economic Affairs, which presented a report on its decision to parliament. The report indicated that the committee approved the names of both candidates. Hence, a voting session took place to appoint one of the nominees to the Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation position. The voting session concluded with Azeema receiving the unanimous votes of 64 parliamentarians. Fathimath Azeema currently serves as the Assistant Commissioner General Enforcement of the national tax authority, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). She was nominated for the Deputy Commissioner General position as the term for Asma Shafeeu, who previously held the position, concluded on October 31.
