HDC announces continuation of water theme park development
Housing Development corporation (HDC) has announced plans to resume the development of the water theme park in Hulhumale’.
Speaking at the parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, Managing Director of HDC Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed outlined the plans to continue the development of both the water theme park and a children’s playground. He revealed that the design work for the park and its surrounding areas has been entrusted to a Sri Lankan company. Additionally, Fazul mentioned that additional land reclamation for the project will begin next year, expressing confidence in the timely completion of the advanced theme park.
The decision to develop the water theme park, a USD 35 million project, was made in 2017. Although some structural work has been completed, most of the project remains unfinished. Initially contracted to the Waterfront Hotel and Leisure Company, the agreement was terminated by HDC due to delays in progress.
When the project first began, HDC had stated that the water theme park would be developed alongside a 50-room hotel. The park was also set to feature a variety of attractions, including spiral slides, speed slides, family slides, pools, bumper boats, water houses, a water roller coaster and a fountain square.
