Fayyaz Ismail announces bid for MDP’s 2028 presidential primary

Chairman of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Fayyaz Ismail, has announced his decision to contest in the party’s primary for the 2028 presidential election. Fayyaz shared the announcement with members of the MDP National Assembly through a message in their official WhatsApp group. In his message, he confirmed his intention to run in the presidential primary and called on party members to support his candidacy. The MDP has officially confirmed its participation in the 2028 presidential election. Meanwhile, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih recently revealed in a television interview that approximately five individuals have expressed interest in contesting for the party’s presidential ticket. However, he refrained from disclosing whether he would be among the candidates, noting that he had already discussed his political future with the party’s leadership.
