Ambassador Wang Lixin highlights the rapid development of China-Maldives relations

Ambassador of China to the Maldives Wang Lixin has emphasised the rapid development of the bilateral relations between the Maldives and China. The remarks were made by the Ambassador during the “China and Maldives: A Decade of Friendship Towards One Shared Future” symposium, held on October 31. The symposium was jointly hosted by the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives and the Maldives China Trade and Cultural Organisation. It was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheryna Abdul Samad, Minister of State for Economic Development and Trade Abdulla Siyaz, senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure. Additionally, it saw the participation of parliamentarians, Deputy Secretary General of the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) Asad Ali, experts, scholars and representatives from Chinese enterprises. During the event, Ambassador Wang stated that this year marks the 10th anniversary of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the Maldives. The ambassador noted that the political mutual trust between the Maldives and China have been increasing since then, benefitting both nations, adding that sustainable development represents the future of China-Maldives cooperation. Several government officials also stated that the visit of President Xi in 2014, marked a turning point in bilateral relations, deepening cooperation between the two states. Furthermore, Ambassador Wang shed light on the rapid development of China-Maldives relations. Stressing that the strong political mutual trust between the two countries laid a solid foundation for the development of China-Maldives relations, the ambassador noted that friendly exchanges played a pivotal role in enhancing the bilateral relations. She further expressed the commitment of China to collaborate with the Maldives to implement agreements reached by the two countries and further strengthen high-level, cultural as well as people-to-people exchanges. In January, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu undertook an official visit to China, which opened new opportunities for the development of bilateral relations. The Maldives expresses optimism in befitting from Chinese modernisation, and looks forward to further enhance cooperation with China in various fields.
