Gov’t facilitates opportunities for fishermen to apply for housing schemes
Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed has revealed that arrangements have been made such that fishermen can apply for housing loan schemes of the government. Speaking at a press conference, Minister Dr. Haidar stated that individuals employed in the fishing sector are now eligible to apply for any of the government’s housing loan schemes. He explained that this initiative was introduced to ensure the inclusion of all individuals working in the economic sector, in the government’s housing policies. The minister further revealed that fishermen who are registered in the national registry are eligible for loans, and efforts are ongoing to extend similar opportunities to other sectors. In response, Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam expressed his gratitude for the administration’s commitment to ensuring that fishermen are included in government housing programmes. He emphasised the administration’s goal of recognising fishermen as an integral part of society, a mission that has been pursued since the current administration took office. To support this objective, the National Registry of Fishermen was established in February to address the challenges faced by those in the sector. Furthermore, Minister Shiyam reported that over 80% of vessels were registered in the National Registry up to this date. He stated that the aim of the ministry was to complete all the works related to the registry by year-end.
