Former President Maumoon extends Victory Day greetings
Former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom has conveyed his Victory Day greetings. In a social media post, former President Maumoon extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the people of the Maldives on Victory Day. He also prayed for Allah to safeguard the nation’s victory and prosperity. Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom was serving as President when the Maldives was invaded on 3 November 1988. In response to the attack, President Maumoon sought assistance from various foreign allies, including the UK, the US, Singapore, and India, to secure the safety of the people and the nation. India was the first country to respond, providing immediate support. When the Indian Army arrived in the Maldives, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) had already driven the rebels out. With the assistance of the Indian Army, hostages were rescued, and the attackers were brought to justice.
