Gov’t to introduce measures to keep jet handling revenue domestic
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, has announced that the government will implement measures to ensure the revenue from the jet handling business stays within the Maldives and benefits domestic companies. During a press conference at the President’s Office, Minister Ameen explained that the jet handling business is largely managed through a company registered under a Maldivian name, with full benefits being directed to foreign parties, particularly from neighbouring countries. He stated that the government is now committed to addressing this issue and ensuring that the industry serves the interests of Maldivian companies. The minister also highlighted the importance of structuring company registrations in a way that ensures revenue remains within the Maldives, preventing it from flowing to foreign entities. In addition, Minister Ameen revealed that the government will conduct audits on the businesses of general sales agents and passenger sales agents in the aviation sector. These measures aim to ensure that Maldivian companies benefit from aviation-related businesses operating within the country.
